So yesterday, I was able to spend some time with my grandmother, aunt, and cousin from Germany who is visiting my aunt for a few weeks. It was great to see Dagmar after only a few months after I stayed with her in Bremen. The visit was short, but very very sweet! So sweet in fact thatshe brought me some of my favorite Haribo gummis that I have yet been able to find here in the states! Yay!!!!

Hey there!

So, I swear I didn't forget about blogging (entirely....) Life has just got a funny way of getting in the way sometimes. Work has been insanely busy, and I've been forced to work mandatory overtime (though I've also been picking up overtime from coworkers who would rather stay home on the weekends than make some extra cash) I just bought this nifty red netbook today, and I have to admit its pretty amazing. The netbook is about the size of a Harry Potter Novel, and weighs in at about 2.3lbs. Its a tiny little thing, with no optical drive... but it makes for a great little computer to take with you on the go (ok, so I fell in love with Ralf and Dagmar's little laptop while I was in Germany... it was cute!) Speaking of Harry Potter, I saw the new movie last week, and as with most books turned into movies, I was disappointed in how it was carried out. As a movie, it was pretty ok (not that amazing, I think it needed more substance really) but otherwise I wasn't impressed with it.  Not much has been going on in my world except work and more work....anyway, hopefully the new netbook will allow me to hop online more often (though I don't really need an excuse to browse online..)

Well, until next time!

I just decided to read through my blogs from my trip to Germany and Paris last month... and well... something got me all choked up....

"I also had a bit of an emotional moment with Ralf, that spurred a hug from him... I think he was getting a bit emotional too, I dont know. He told me that Germans always have to come home... even when they were living in Berlin, they had to come home, it was just a must do. I told him... then I must be a true German, because I have to come back to Bremen, there is no question about it....its my home too."

An overdue update....

Its 5:45am, and guess what?! I CANT SLEEP!!! Joy of Joys!

I figure this is the perfect opportunity to blog about my life (seeing as though I've had little to no time since I started working again)
Not much has been going on these days, except work, and sleep. Funny how working a 12 hour shift 3-4 days a week can just suck the life out of you. I did manage to go out last weekend and enjoy some time with my friends, which was nice. We had a pretty crowded house party over at my friend Pepe's house last Saturday, and needless to say, I put a lot of time and energy into helping him get the house in order before everyone showed up and made a mess. Luckily for me, someone else was helping with the clean up! Work has been, well, exceedingly busy. For those who don't know, I work in a particle free environment (a clean room or fab as we call it) manufacturing wafers that are then shipped to China to become part of hard drives that are used in all sorts of appliances (perhaps even the computer you are reading this blog on!) My job, specifically, is to inspect and measure the wafers at various stages of the production process, using a scanning electron microscope attached to a computer. Now, each of these wafers, EASILY costs about $70,000 while in production (the final product being worth over 120,000) So, its imperative that the measurements are within the specifications required for that particular product, and that the images that we take with the microscope look clean, and free of corrosion or other defects. So, something drastically different than working in a restaurant.... but the people are super nice. Everyone was so excited to see me last Tuesday when I came back to work (again, for those that don't know, this is the same job I got laid off from in January of this year) Anyway, we're super busy at work, like I said... mandatory overtime for all operators... Im not going to complain, its extra money in my bank account! This week was my long week, Monday through Thursday 6am to 6pm, next week I only work Monday through Wednesday from 6 to 6, but I have to work overtime that Sunday... which means my next long week will be extra long (5 days x 12 hour shifts = a 60 hour work week!!!!) Anyway, no real plans for this weekend, except Im going to Bingo tonight with AK and Gary, my cousin Teresa, possibly her son Fazil, and my best friend Derek. Should be an interesting night as no one has met Derek in the year that I've known him.

Alright, I should probably try to get some sleep before I have an exciting night with the senior citizens of the Silicon Valley!

So apparently about 5-6 people at my old job (where my aunt has worked for almost 15 years) have gone up to my aunt and said "So, I hear Kevin is coming back!" Now, my only question is, if I'm coming back to work there, why don't I know about it? Im waiting for a phone call... hopefully it comes! I'll keep yall updated, but Im already browsing storage units and furniture at IKEA for my pending moveout :)

The Weekend Update.

[info]monkehshinez
Well this was a fun filled weekend of spending time with friends I haven't seen in a while, because of the trip and all. Friday was my best friend Derek's dance performance at Foothill college, which was 2 hours of amazing talent. I couldn't believe what I was watching, it was delightful. From there, we headed to the Boardwalk in Los Altos for Pizza and post-show revelry, and then Derek's house for drinks. Saturday I napped for a bit when I got home and then just kind of went out with some friends to hang out, since we hadn't seen each other in forever. I was able to conclude the weekend on Sunday with Brunch at El Torito in Milpitas with about 7 of my friends, followed by seeing the new Disney movie "UP" at Cinemark at the Great Mall. The movie was a little depressing to start with (which surprised me, since its a Disney flick) but by the end my friends and I were laughing pretty hard. Its going to be hard to live some of that movie down (one of the characters names is Kevin and there are several quotes I'm sure I'll hear for a while) Anyway, pictures below are from the dance performance.

Ahhh Memories!

Its amazing, Im sitting here at the airport, waiting for my flight to head back home, and I can't believe everything that has happened in the past 3 weeks. I've flown further away from home than I ever have before, I was on the largest airplane that I can recall ever being on. I've seen the place where I was born, where we lived, where my ancestors were from. I've climbed the Eiffel Tower, walked through the Louvre, stood at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe, and toured Notre Dame, taken a cruise along the Seine, and sat and enjoyed dinner and a show at the Moulin Rouge. It feels like it has been forever since I was sitting in this very same airport waiting for my flight to head overseas, and even longer since I left California. Words will never be able to express how amazing this trip has been for me, and how special it is for me to be able to share this journey with you, my family and my friends. I really hope this has given you a good look at how I saw things in Germany and France, and perhaps gave you a little insight into who I am and what I enjoy! I am very ready to go home, but sad to be leaving as well. Its time to head back to reality and get back to work so that I can start saving up for my next adventure (whatever that may be) I've definitely learned a lot about myself in the past few weeks, I can't wait to see where my next adventure takes me :) Thank you all so much for coming on this trip with me, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

I really should finally post this...

[info]monkehshinez
Okay, I keep procrastinating (as usual) about posting the rest of the pics from Paris and the trip home, so I'm going to post some of my favorite pics from the trip to Paris and finally blog about it!

So, the day after we arrived in Paris, Dad and I got up early and hit the ground running. We had a quick breakfast at the hotel, then left to go explore Paris. Now, the entire trip to Paris, he and I used a 2 day Paris Metro pass, so it was my job to figure out (from the map we had with us) how to get from point A to point B, and sometimes to figure out what point B was going to be. So we set out to explore the city, took the Metro to the Arc de Triomphe, which frankly, I was amazed by the size of it. I suppose only seeing pictures where the Arc is only maybe 5 inches from top to bottom didn't help me imagine the massive monument. We walked around the base for a bit, but found out that the actual inside of the Arc didn't open up until 10am, and it was maybe 9am at this time, so we walked down the Champs de Elysees, where most of the shops were not opened yet, or were in the process of opening. It was very cool to see some of the big name designers along the Champs de Elysees. I think I was most impressed by the enormous Louis Vuitton store, and seeing Cartier. Cartier in Paris... the best of the best, right? So we walked down the Champs de Elysees, then back up to the Arc de Triomphe, which was now open. I found out right then and there how much I detest stairs. Oh. My. God. My legs felt like Jello by the time I got to the 1st museum level, and it got worse by the time I got to the top. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking, seeing everything from that vantage point for the first time, was very special. We snapped some great pictures before heading back down to the museum level, and found the elevator for the ride down to the ground (I wish we had known about it going up!) From there, Dad and I took off to the Louvre, where we walked around the Tuiliaries and saw the various statues and fountains, which was very nice indeed. We were a bit hungry so we stopped for some lunch there, which I thought was amazing. I mean, here I am, in PARIS, eating lunch in front of the LOUVRE.... HOW COOL is THAT?! I mean, even if the food hadnt been great (I loved it) I still would have enjoyed it. The Louvre was, well.... crowded. But that's to be expected, right? My thing with the Louvre was, everyone goes there to see the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo, and yeah, I wanted to see them too. However, my objective was to see more obscure pieces of artwork and see which were my favorites. Needless to say, the Winged Victory sculpture was absolutely gorgeous, and there were a few other paintings that really caught my eye. From the Louvre we walked around a bit, did some light shopping, saw the hotel Dad, Wendy and Grandma stayed in (once we found it) and then took off for Notre Damn. Now by this time, its oh... 2 maybe 3 in the afternoon, and we've both been up and running since about 7, so we're already getting a bit tired. We get to Notre Damn, and again, as with most things in Paris, I was amazed by the enormity of it. I mean, this cathedral is HUGE... pictures don't do it justice. The other thing is I found out that this HUGE building has even HUGER doors... I mean... WOW. So, after Notre Damn, we realized that we were both REALLY tired, so we looked into taking a cruise along the Seine. The Cruise was fairly cheap, but well worth the money we spent. It was both relaxing and interesting to see all the sights in Paris from the river. The cruise lasted about an hour, after which Dad and I hopped on the metro and went to the Eiffel Tower. Now, only my Dad and I could get off the Metro at the FOOT of the Eiffel Tower and not see it. We actually started walking in the opposite direction, until we looked up and saw the tower behind us, behind some trees and an office building. We waited in line, and went up to the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower, which, I guess I didn't realize how high up that was, or that I was a bit afraid of heights. So, with the wind blowing and a 45 minute wait to go to the top I passed on taking the elevator to the top floor. Instead, Dad and I grabbed a couple of sandwiches on the 1st floor and took plenty of photos, then headed down to the Musee de Homme or Musem of Man. It was about 8pm by now, and I think the Museum was actually closed, so we stood outside at the Trocadero, and had a BEAUTIFUL vantage point to see the Eiffel Tower. I really think its the best view in the city of the tower. After all of that, Dad and I finally decided to head back to the hotel and get some rest, I think we wound up back at the hotel around 11ish but Im not certain.

Bonjour from Paris, Dad's batteries in his laptop just died, so I'm going to write down my blog in my journal, and then I'll copy it over to the blog whenever I get a chance. We're both very tired and cranky, and its 12:30am Thursday morning! I'll post an update ASAP, but I need to do what I can to keep the peace right now :)
