Okay, I keep procrastinating (as usual) about posting the rest of the pics from Paris and the trip home, so I'm going to post some of my favorite pics from the trip to Paris and finally blog about it!
So, the day after we arrived in Paris, Dad and I got up early and hit the ground running. We had a quick breakfast at the hotel, then left to go explore Paris. Now, the entire trip to Paris, he and I used a 2 day Paris Metro pass, so it was my job to figure out (from the map we had with us) how to get from point A to point B, and sometimes to figure out what point B was going to be. So we set out to explore the city, took the Metro to the Arc de Triomphe, which frankly, I was amazed by the size of it. I suppose only seeing pictures where the Arc is only maybe 5 inches from top to bottom didn't help me imagine the massive monument. We walked around the base for a bit, but found out that the actual inside of the Arc didn't open up until 10am, and it was maybe 9am at this time, so we walked down the Champs de Elysees, where most of the shops were not opened yet, or were in the process of opening. It was very cool to see some of the big name designers along the Champs de Elysees. I think I was most impressed by the enormous Louis Vuitton store, and seeing Cartier. Cartier in Paris... the best of the best, right? So we walked down the Champs de Elysees, then back up to the Arc de Triomphe, which was now open. I found out right then and there how much I detest stairs. Oh. My. God. My legs felt like Jello by the time I got to the 1st museum level, and it got worse by the time I got to the top. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking, seeing everything from that vantage point for the first time, was very special. We snapped some great pictures before heading back down to the museum level, and found the elevator for the ride down to the ground (I wish we had known about it going up!) From there, Dad and I took off to the Louvre, where we walked around the Tuiliaries and saw the various statues and fountains, which was very nice indeed. We were a bit hungry so we stopped for some lunch there, which I thought was amazing. I mean, here I am, in PARIS, eating lunch in front of the LOUVRE.... HOW COOL is THAT?! I mean, even if the food hadnt been great (I loved it) I still would have enjoyed it. The Louvre was, well.... crowded. But that's to be expected, right? My thing with the Louvre was, everyone goes there to see the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo, and yeah, I wanted to see them too. However, my objective was to see more obscure pieces of artwork and see which were my favorites. Needless to say, the Winged Victory sculpture was absolutely gorgeous, and there were a few other paintings that really caught my eye. From the Louvre we walked around a bit, did some light shopping, saw the hotel Dad, Wendy and Grandma stayed in (once we found it) and then took off for Notre Damn. Now by this time, its oh... 2 maybe 3 in the afternoon, and we've both been up and running since about 7, so we're already getting a bit tired. We get to Notre Damn, and again, as with most things in Paris, I was amazed by the enormity of it. I mean, this cathedral is HUGE... pictures don't do it justice. The other thing is I found out that this HUGE building has even HUGER doors... I mean... WOW. So, after Notre Damn, we realized that we were both REALLY tired, so we looked into taking a cruise along the Seine. The Cruise was fairly cheap, but well worth the money we spent. It was both relaxing and interesting to see all the sights in Paris from the river. The cruise lasted about an hour, after which Dad and I hopped on the metro and went to the Eiffel Tower. Now, only my Dad and I could get off the Metro at the FOOT of the Eiffel Tower and not see it. We actually started walking in the opposite direction, until we looked up and saw the tower behind us, behind some trees and an office building. We waited in line, and went up to the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower, which, I guess I didn't realize how high up that was, or that I was a bit afraid of heights. So, with the wind blowing and a 45 minute wait to go to the top I passed on taking the elevator to the top floor. Instead, Dad and I grabbed a couple of sandwiches on the 1st floor and took plenty of photos, then headed down to the Musee de Homme or Musem of Man. It was about 8pm by now, and I think the Museum was actually closed, so we stood outside at the Trocadero, and had a BEAUTIFUL vantage point to see the Eiffel Tower. I really think its the best view in the city of the tower. After all of that, Dad and I finally decided to head back to the hotel and get some rest, I think we wound up back at the hotel around 11ish but Im not certain.
